A breakthrough in dry macular degeneration treatment

Clinically proven light-based treatment designed to slow progression of dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Are you worried about losing your sight due to AMD? You’re not alone, and there’s hope! If you’re living with dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), the Valeda Light Delivery System may be a great option so you can keep enjoying life’s most meaningful moments.

The Valeda Light Delivery System is the first and only FDA-authorized treatment for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to improve and maintain vision.

What is Valeda Light Therapy?

Valeda delivers a non-invasive, multiwavelength, light-based therapy that utilizes photobiomodulation (PBM) to treat dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This targeted treatment delivers specific wavelengths of light to the retina, stimulating cellular activity to improve vision and slow disease progression. Clinical studies have shown that Valeda can improve visual outcomes. Here’s the science:

Your retina has cells called photoreceptors. In dry AMD, these cells gradually break down, causing vision loss. Valeda’s light therapy is designed to energize these cells at the mitochondrial level, essentially giving them the boost they need to function better.

The result? Your retina may work more efficiently, potentially improving your vision and reducing drusen (the protein deposits that accumulate in dry AMD).

What makes it different:

  • Not an injection (no needles)
  • Not a medication (no systemic side effects)
  • Not just ‘slowing progression’— designed to help improve vision
  • FDA-approved (November 2024)
  • Backed by clinical trials

Assessment & treatment course

At the initial assessment, a routine retinal examination with imaging is performed to verify that you are suitable for treatment. Follow-up retinal examinations with imaging will occur following your last treatment in each cycle.

The treatment is safe, non-invasive, and generally pain free. There is no down-time required following treatment.

A follow-up retinal examination with imaging is performed after your last treatment in each cycle.

Session Details:

  • Duration: Approximately 5 minutes per eye
  • Comfort: You sit comfortably while the device delivers light therapy to your eye
  • Side Effects: Minimal; most patients tolerate it very well
  • Both Eyes: Can be treated in the same session

Treatment Schedule:

  • Schedule: A series of nine short sessions (each under 5 minutes per eye) delivered over three to five weeks.
  • Maintenance: Repeated cycles are typically scheduled every four months to sustain vision improvements.
  • Experience: Pain-free, non-invasive, no needles, no surgery, and no pupil dilation or downtime required.
  • Your doctor will recommend the best schedule for your specific condition

Patient Candidacy

  • Stage: Approved for adults with early- to intermediate- stage dry AMD.
  • Vision Range: Best-corrected visual acuity in the better eye typically between 20/32 and 20/70.
  • Exclusions: Not for patients with wet AMD, central geographic atrophy, or severe light sensitivity/migraine/seizure triggers.
